• For more than 20 years, award-winning reporter/anchor, Antoinette Essa has been  a media fixture in the Richmond area.

    Antoinette Essa began her broadcasting career in her native city of Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. She came to the U.S. in 1977, studying Broadcast Journalism at University of Bridgeport. After spending some time in New York, Essa has been a Richmonder since 1989.

    Antoinette began her radio career at W.A.N.T., central Virginia’s first Urban Radio Station. Since then, Essa has spent time with WKIE, WRBN, WSMJ Smooth Jazz, WGGM-WZEZ, and Power 93 now I-Power 92.1. Currently, her sultry voice can be heard on 99.3 & 105.7 KISS FM Saturdays; from 10am to 3pm. Antoinette brings a personal touch to radio, connecting with listeners by incorporating listener’s participation during their weekend activities, birthdays, anniversaries, family reunions or any other special celebrations.

    On television, Antoinette Essa is well known for her “12 About Town” segments at WWBT NBC12, where she served as “The Entertainment Reporter” for twelve years and five years as an anchor for NBC12News at Noon. She also spent time producing Public Service Announcements for the network as well.

    She is currently the host of “Comcast Local Edition” seen, locally, on Comcast Cable channel 26. In September of 2009, Antoinette joined the WTVR CBS6 family as a correspondent reporter for The “A-List”, a community-based segment, featuring news and events around the Richmond Metropolitan area for CBS 6’s evening newscasts. She also Co-Anchors the CBS 6 Saturday Weekend Morning Newscast.

    Antoinette has been awarded Volunteer Services Certificates by The American Legion, The American Red Cross for Survivors of Hurricane Katrina, The Virginia Jazz Award for Jazz Service and Certificate for Appreciation from Henrico County Division of Police.

    Antoinette Essa has served the City of Richmond in public relations capacity, as the Public Information Manager under former Mayor and former Governor Doug Wilder.

    Antoinette’s future plans are filled with a number of community service initiatives, include forming a charity to support the children in her home Country of Liberia.
